Total Cost Management Project Manager

Location: Canton, MI, USA  





TCM Project Manager will identify, analyze, and drive cost improvement opportunities across disciplines, programs and Customer groups.  Collaborate with the Cost Planning team to broaden the scale of ideas focused on specific PN BOMs, Customers or programs. Generate fresh ideas with “outside-the-box” approaches.  Interface regularly with Sales, Purchasing, ComBU, Manufacturing, Material Planning & Logistics, Finance and Engineering to manage improvement actions for Total Cost Management activities.




  • Closely monitor Cost Planning activities and determine opportunities to apply ideas in other areas.
  • Monitor Profit Improvement activities in supporting groups and determine opportunities to re-apply ideas.
  • Understand the Yazaki cost structure and use that knowledge to generate fresh, “outside-the-box” ideas.
  • Gather necessary information to build a true cost analysis for TCM proposals.
  • Consider risks to projects due to internal and/or external factors (e.g. exchange rate fluctuation, volume change, manufacturing transfers, etc.).
  • Evaluate and rank proposals on complexity, return-on-investment, timing, and resource requirements.
  • Get commitments from each related division/department to implement approved proposals.
  • Gather necessary information to populate proposal tracking tools.
  • Update information based on changes to designs, timing, resource availability, volumes, risks, etc.
  • Follow-up with related departments on their commitments, with timely escalation of stalled issues.
  • Report monthly and/or as needed on issue progress and status and on overall TCM activities.
  • Track all issues from inception through closure.
  • Make improvements to tools and processes.
  • Analyze what went well and wrong during the life cycle of ideas.
  • Follow-up and verify implementation of corrective actions to identified process steps or tool shortcomings.





Degree Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or closely related field

Certification Requirements:


Previous Experience:


Required:  Broad knowledge of business principles in Sales, Finance or Purchasing

Preferred: 5 years Global Business experience in Automotive or Manufacturing.   

Travel Requirements:

Average (as needed)




Microsoft Office. Microsoft PowerBI, SAP, are a plus.

On Call Requirements:

Overtime as required
