3D CAD Supervisor
What we are looking for:
Yazaki is looking for a 3D CAD Supervisor to join our Ford Engineering BU in Canton, MI.
Working in alignment with the Engineering Manager, the 3D CAD Supervisor will lead and guide the 3D CAD engineering team to achieve strategic objectives, meet customer requirements, and maximize customer satisfaction. This role serves as a key technical resource for CATIA and Teamcenter, while overseeing CAD release activities, engineering change control, customer deliverables, and the implementation of OEM -specific engineering tools and processes.
The ideal candidate will have strong automotive engineering and 3D CAD experience, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to lead a technical team in a fast-paced customer environment.
What you will be doing:
- Serve as the primary resource for CATIA and Teamcenter training, providing coaching and technical support to the 3D CAD team.
- Manage the 3D First Frame Release Process for Notices across Ford programs, supporting a typical workflow of approximately 60 Notices per week.
- Manage the weekly Notice Tracker to ensure all Notices are accurately processed and released according to customer timing requirements.
- Host weekly team meetings to review Notice status, priorities, and new CAD workstreams.
- Support daily Customer Change Control meetings, providing status updates on open Change Requests (CRs).
- Serve as the first point of contact for the Ford GES team in India, communicating DPA issues and coordinating with the design team to facilitate timely updates and resolution.
- Report DPA status to the customer and develop glide paths to track and ensure completion of required checks.
- Lead the development and implementation of the CATIA V6 / 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX) initiative for Yazaki North America, including coaching and training Ford team members on new Build-to-Math processes.
- Lead the incorporation of new Ford engineering tools and processes for the YNA 3D team, including MCI, DIAS Envelopes, Tech & Technique meetings, MATH Tool, and other applicable customer requirements.
- Manage and implement new Ford CATIA and Teamcenter procedures, resources, and useful links on the team's OneDrive site.
- Understand the fundamental technical issues associated with product design, 3D CAD, and the application of underlying materials and technologies.
- Understand, deploy, and oversee effective utilization of engineering toolsets to meet customer and business requirements.
- Ensure adherence to applicable department, customer, and engineering processes.
- Ensure daily business deliverables are completed according to established timing, quality, and cost requirements.
- Support the team in developing creative and innovative solutions to technical issues while maintaining customer deliverables.
- Effectively identify internal BU obstacles that could impact the team's ability to deliver customer requirements.
- Ensure work products support BU and Core Engineering organizational objectives.
- Identify resources, skills, training, and other support needed to meet established targets.
- Ensure proper training, application, and execution of the GPMS (Global Project Management System) by engineering teams.
- Hold development discussions with staff, ensure training remains current, and identify appropriate candidates for career development and promotion.
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and coaching of subordinate staff members.
- Review and approve employee timecards and manage SuccessFactors timekeeping requirements.
- Conduct quarterly check-ins and performance ratings (PR Ratings) for team members and complete annual performance evaluations.
- Pre-screen team requests for expenditures, review and approve expense reports, and participate in program/department budget planning.
- Evaluate and propose merit budget allocations for direct reports.
- Champion the creation of Universal Development Plans within the area of focus.
- Effectively manage the direct reporting structure to accomplish program deliverables.
- Ensure compliance and technical competency of self and staff within the area of responsibility.
What you will bring to the table:
- Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive engineering, design engineering, or product development, with 2+ years performing product design or development activities.
- Experience with CATIA, preferably CATIA V6 and/or 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX).
- Experience with Teamcenter or other Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Experience working with 3D CAD, engineering releases, design changes, or CAD data management.
- Experience working with an automotive OEM
- Strong understanding of engineering change control, customer deliverables, and design release processes.
- Experience providing technical training, coaching, or mentoring to engineering/design teams.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a customer-focused environment.
- Shipping and transportation control background desired.
- Spanish speaking preferred, but not required.
