Sr. Design Release Engineer  (REQ #147861)

What we are looking for:

Yazaki is looking for an Sr. Design Release Engineer based out of our U.S. headquarters office in Canton, MI. Up to 30% of domestic/international travel is required per year. 40 hours/week.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Define retention and covering components (convolute, tape, etc.) to be used on the wire harness.
  • Initiate NCRs (New Component Requests) and interface with Advanced Purchasing, Advanced Supplier Development, Provisional Component Engineering, and ComBU for the development and approval of new-tooled components.
  • Initiate CPLs for any new component identified as Engineering change.
  • Maintain customer part release system per the statement of work.
  • Communicate to customers the content and status of the design, design changes, and build requirements.
  • Provide customer responses for cost studies Update engineering issues in customer change management systems (e.g., CN, EWO, WERS, AIMS, etc.).
  • Identify and understand when the Concern, Alert, or Notices are approved and/or released.
  • Identify part pedigree per build phase in WERS and how they align to BEAMS.
  • Identify and direct Program Coordinators on WERS MFAL Usage Strings.
  • Determine when a deviation is required and information for an Alert (WERS deviation), how to get it approved, and what activity to contact and explain the change, and work with approvers to change status.
  • Identify changes and deviations. Align PRs with build phases.
  • Work with Program Coordinators to get WERS Alert pulled and approved, as required.
  • Verify usage strings align with Ford WERS and BEAMS release.
  • Assure usage strings are aligned with parts and WERS release.
  • Review customer Pedigree codes and align Alerts to reflect those designations.
  • Release non-Yazaki parts (screws, standard parts, etc.) into the customer system per the statement of work.
  • Ensure design meets customer and internal requirements.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineer to review customer product letters and determine complexity levels.
  • Collaborate with 3D CAD Designer to review 3D models and ensure 2D and 3D match.
  • Create and submit in BEAMS print markups for product designs that meet customer specifications and requirements, including DFA (Design for Vehicle Assembly).
  • Collaborate with Product Design Engineering to communicate engineering changes and coordinate 2D print releases.
  • Collaborate with the DVP&R (Design Verification Process & Report) team to validate customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain program-specific, harness DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
  • Evaluate information provided by the customer as applied to the product/project for completeness and accuracy.
  • Initiate customer plant trials, document results of the trial, and obtain customer sign- off.
  • Support assembly plant instructions for customers per the statement of work.
  • Identify new components and initiate the component registration process.
  • Identify if the design needs to be validated based on USCAR-21,38 or 45.
  • Lead customer interface for technical issues and program engineering deliverables.
  • Represent YNA Engineering at customer change control meetings (e.g., PMT, PAT, etc.) and design reviews (e.g., technical design review, digital buck review, system compatibility review, etc.).
  • Represent YNA manufacturing to customers to support YNA DFM (Design for Manufacturing) guidelines.
  • Support vehicle builds and launches at customer pilot and assembly plants.
  • Generate cost savings ideas and attend VAVE (Value Analysis Value Engineering) workshops.
  • Trace technical issues and problems to root cause.
  • Support customer initiatives such as cost and warranty reduction activities, etc.
  • Train and mentor less experienced Engineers as required.
  • Act as a substitute for Supervisor as required.
  • Create and revise work instructions, processes, and procedures.
  • Create and modify specifications and design guidelines.

 

What you will bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or the foreign equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience in the job offered or a related position within the automotive field.
  • Must have experience with Automotive Wiring Design.
  • Must have experience with the following systems: Enterprise-Wide Optimization (EWO); World Wide Engineering Release System (WERS); and Asset Information Management System (AIMS).
