What we are looking for:

Yazaki is looking for a Mechanical Design Supervisor to join our Electronics Instrumentation Business Unit in Canton, MI. This person will plan, organize, direct, control and implement design and development of mechanical design for automotive LV and HV power distribution and electronics modules; support the mechanical design manager to organize the department tasks; and train and mentor less experienced Engineers, evaluate engineering associate performance, coach, and substitute for Manager as required.

 

 What you will be doing:

  • Responsible for mechanical design and development of automotive LV and HV power distribution and electronic modules.
  • Interact with each department in EIBU and outside of EIBU.
  • Interact with OEM customers and suppliers during product development.
  • Recognized mentor to department associates.
  • Product Development related analysis, studies, and calculations
  • Applicable APQP documentation (DFMEA, DVP&R, QFD, Other as appropriate)
  • Drawing / Design package preparation / release
  • Product Review / Evaluation (New / Existing product)
  • Troubleshooting
  • Customer Contact / Customer Presentations
  • Considerable Decision Making scope and challenge (multiple options)
  • Setting personal daily work schedules in accordance with assigned tasks, deadlines, and priorities.  May also include guidance for work schedules of other less experienced associates based on participation in specific project(s) or activities.

In addition to the above items, the Associate is expected to:

  • Perform assignments independently, with only minimal guidance from the applicable Manager
  • Provide guidance / assistance to other less experienced Associates within the EI mechanical engineering department.
  • Lead a product development team based on specific project deliverables.
  • Work on multiple and / or potentially complex issues
  • Create project development plans including resources, material, and equipment as appropriate
  • Engage in Engineering related negotiations (testing issues, quality related tasks / corrective actions, discussions with similar level customer engineers)
  • Perform production line reviews and propose potential improvement ideas
  • Create and revise work instructions, processes and procedures
  • Create, and modify specifications and design guidelines
  • Generate cost savings ideas and attend VAVE (Value Analysis Value Engineering) workshops
  • Trace technical issues and problems to root cause
  • Support customer initiatives such as cost and warranty reduction activities, etc.

What you will bring to the table: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of CAD Modeling (2D, 3D) (CATIA V5 experience is preferable)
  • Experience with standard office software such as Excel, Word, and Power-point, etc.
  • Ability to create new and interpret existing geometric drawings / models
  • Working knowledge of linear FEA
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Sophisticated oral / written communication skills
  • Ability to focus on multiple assignments at a single time (multi-task)
  • Materials knowledge (plastic, metals, rubber)
  • Understanding of Injection Molding / Stamping / Basic Die Design
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to organize the mechanical design group.
  • 8+ years of relevant LV / HV power distribution or electronic module design experience desired.
