Materials & Chemical Management Engineer

Location: Canton, MI, USA  




Assist with the duties associated with materials and chemical management.  Works primarily in the materials area to learn and understand the systems and Yazaki terminology with occasional activities in the chemical management and product compliance areas.



  • Learn the processes and procedures associated with new material registration
  • Complete the forms/documents necessary for material registration
  • Manage a system for YNA to track all active material registrations and develop completion timing
  • Learn what materials are used by Yazaki and the advantages/disadvantages of those materials
  • Create PowerPoint presentations to present data to Global Material Groups, YNA Business Units and Customers
  • Willingness to learn about automotive materials



  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Social and Communication skills required to make requests and interact with engineers
  • Interest in chemistry, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Desired but not required – the ability to read and understand published standards (OEM Engineering Standards, Government Issued Standards/Directives, and Others)
  • Ability to have minimal direction and be self-motivated





Degree Requirements:

  • BS degree or higher in relevant technical, science or engineering discipline

Certification Requirements:

  • Project Management certification a plus

Previous Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a materials/chemistry environment (international experience a plus)
  • Knowledge of chemistry/engineering
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills

Travel Requirements:

  • Domestic and international travel ~ 10%
  • Customer, Supplier, and Affiliate locations
