What we are looking for:

Yazaki is looking for a motivated Summer Intern – Mechanical Engineering to join our Component Business Unit Engineering team in Canton, MI.  The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, results-oriented environment and is eager to make meaningful contributions to the organization. This internship runs full-time from May 11, 2026 to August 14, 2026.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Project Work:
    • Our team is responsible for the full life cycle (from the gathering of design requirements to product support) of injection-molded plastic and stamped metal components.
    • The intern would support these activities by various means including benchmarking products, creating 3D-printed prototypes, making drawings, performing design studies, testing components, drafting validation plans, and more.

 

 

  • Success Metrics:
    • Apply engineering skills to accomplish the various tasks listed above.
    • Contribute to the progress of our vertical integration projects.
    • Finish this experience understanding the basics of component design.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with:
    • Your direct supervisor
    • Experienced engineers leading development projects
    • Cross-functional team members (Sales, PM, Quality, Manufacturing, etc.)

 

What you will bring to the table:

  • Education: Enrollment in a 4-year degree program at an accredited institution during the internship period.
  • Relevant Background: Degree/experience related to the position (mechanical engineering is preferred).
  • Academic Standing: A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Commitment: Availability to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks between May 11, 2026, and August 14, 2026
  • Technical Skills: 
    • Experience with CAD (SolidWorks is preferred).
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
    • Understanding of engineering drawings. Some experience with drafting.
    • Effective communicator who can clearly visualize, interpret, and present data.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities.
