Design Engineer - HV Components

What we are looking for:

Yazaki is looking for a Design Engineer to join our Component Business Unit (COMBU) team in Canton, MI. The person in this role will perform activities related to the design and development of electrical connection systems for the automotive industry.   

 What you will be doing:

 Product Design

  • Perform all product development design analysis, studies, and calculations
  • Create all applicable APQP documentation (DFMEA, DVP&R, QFD, and others as appropriate)
  • Prepare and Release Component Drawing/Design packages
  • Participate in Product Reviews/Evaluations (Design Reviews and Benchmarking)
  • Oversee and review component validation testing
  • Review and approve component inspection data

 

       Customer Management

  • Provide resolution of complex customer issues
  • Lead QA related activities (8D, 5WPPS) as necessary
  • Prepare and Present Customer Presentations
  • Provide Customer Support when needed

 

In addition to the above items, the Associate is expected to:

  • Set personal daily work schedules in accordance with assigned tasks, deadlines, and priorities
  • Perform assignments independently, with minimal guidance from the Supervisor or Manager
  • Provide guidance / assistance to other less experienced Associates within the connector engineering department (though not in a Supervisory type role).
  • Contribute to project development plans to forecast resources, material, and equipment
  • Engage in Engineering related negotiations (testing issues, quality related tasks / corrective actions, discussions with similar level customer engineers)
  • Perform production line reviews and propose potential improvement ideas
  • Work on multiple and potentially complex issues

What you will bring to the table: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of CAD Modeling (2D, 3D) (SOLIDWORKS capability preferred)
  • Working knowledge of PC environment (MS Office Products)
  • Ability to create new and interpret existing geometric drawings / models
  • Understanding of all APQP documentation and component PPAP process
  • Knowledge of industry test methods and requirements (USCAR, ISO, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of linear FEA
  • Sophisticated oral / written communication skills
  • Materials knowledge (Plastic, metals, rubber)
  • Understanding of Injection Molding / Stamping / Basic Die Design
  • 6~8 years relevant connector and / or terminal design experience desired
