We are currently recruiting fora permanent Systems Engineer – Electronics & Instrumentation, to be based in our Basildon site, with the opportunity for Hybrid working. The main purpose of the role is to Design and development of electronics and instrumentation for the automotive market on customer requirements under consideration of all engineering specifications, cost, quality, and timing. 


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops design concepts and generates technical proposal in response to Request for Quotation (RFQ)
  • Develops System designs, performs functional analysis, defines systems architecture, defines interfaces and specification, performs trade-studies and documents the design by writing PAD, TMS, SRS, DFMEA
  • Performs requirement analysis, traceability and maintenance of requirements
  • Designs to government standards such as the Automotive standards, ISO in accordance to the requirements and demonstrating compliance
  • Ensures Availability & Reliability and other Logistics support considerations are part of the system design process
  • Reviews obsolescence issues and recommends design changes
  • Attends and participates in customer design reviews and acceptance events
  • Participate in system integration tests, trials, and acceptance tests at customer facilities
  • Manages scope of work, schedules the work, estimates the effort, the costs and identifies technical risks; effectively communicates status on a regular basis to management
  • Works in both a team environment and independently with minimum supervision
  • Perform System engineering tasks in design and development when require
  • To develop up and lead the system engineering, requirements management, and validation requirements of the projects.
  • Analysis, co-ordination and preparation of product design, system engineering, requirements management, and validation engineering processes
  • Identify, evaluate, select product design, system engineering, requirements management, and validation engineering development tools and equipment
  • Liaise with colleagues in other Yazaki electronics & instrumentation design centres to transfer knowledge and experience
  • To co-ordinate and participate in benchmark activities such as research, record and present customer profiles and trends
  • Determine best practices and design processes
  • Develop strategies to facilitate engineering objectives, (process improvement, cost reduction, DFM, continuous improvement, etc.)
  • Evaluate design information provided by the customer for completeness and accuracy and track internally (i.e. schematics, subsystem requirements, circuit lists, marketing doc's, etc.)
  • Support selection of appropriate components (i.e. relays, connectors, accessories, etc.) to meet vehicle specifications
  • Interface with RFQ/D&D team to validate customer requirements (i.e. customer requirement validation, load survey, short circuit,
  • Collaborate with Design Release Engineers and Application Engineers to define vehicle requirements and review 2D drawings
  • Ability to climb inside of vehicles to troubleshoot and rework
  • Receive customer RFQ information (Requirements, 3D, 2D, schematic, circuit lists, etc.) and review for technical feasibility.
  • To interface with our customers to clarify all requirements on the electronic product development
  • Support RFQ Technical Review with customer
  • Investigate new technology and integrate into the design where applicable
  • Create and document RFQ design (i.e. technical delivery document, requirements capture and decomposition, discrepancies, assumptions as applicable)



Must have:

  • Extensive experience with engineering of electronics or instrument cluster within the automotive sector;
  • Solid experience with system engineering.
  • Knowledge in mechanical component manufacturing technologies, particularly injection moulding.
  • Knowledge of electronics hardware design.
  • Knowledge of embedded software design.
  • Knowledge about rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Knowledge about manufacturing techniques for electronics and injection moulded parts.
  • Very good knowledge and understanding of automotive test and validation requirements (environmental testing).
  • Very good presentation preparation and delivery skills.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and how they relate to physical attributes (advanced skill level)
  • Ability to read and understand customer documentation as it relates to component complexity (intermediate skill level)
  • Capable of utilizing design automation tools in the design and verification of the electrical distribution system (intermediate skill level)
  • Understand internal change management system and process (intermediate skill level)
  • Understand the customer change management process (basic skill level)
  • Understand the vehicle assembly process (prototype, pre-production, production & trials) (basic skill level)
  • Understand design for manufacturing principles (intermediate skill level)
  • Understand customer specifications (advanced skill level)
  • Understand the DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) (advance skill level)
  • Understand the DVP (Design Verification Process) (intermediate skill level)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects (own and others) (intermediate skill level)
  • Proficient in the interpersonal and leadership skills to work with others in a senior position (intermediate skill level)
  • Experience with instrument cluster design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with smart junction boxes and body electronics design.
  • Experience with leading System engineering.
  • Full valid driving licence to drive in the UK
  • Fluent in English
  • Right to work in the UK – Valid Passport
  • Ability to travel both in the UK and Overseas, sometimes at short notice
