What we are looking for:
Yazaki is looking for a Product Development Engineer to join our Provisional Components Business Unit in Canton, MI. This person would create, validate, and verify component concepts and designs. Lead supplier interface for technical issues. Support continuous improvement of the design.
What you will be doing:
Component Concept/Design
- Create component concepts
- Receive and review packaging studies
- Develop and maintain program-specific, component DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
- Ensure design meets customer and internal requirements
- Create, review, and be responsible for the CAD model, drawings and associated documents
- Evaluate information provided by the customer as applied to the product/project for completeness and accuracy
- Interface with Application Engineer to ensure DFM
- Collaborate with Design Release Engineer and 3D Designers/Engineers to develop component designs and support the customer as needed
Component Design Validation/Verification
- Create and implement DVP&R
- Verify (test) and validate (customer use) designs and communicate findings
- Lead design reviews for assigned projects
Supplier Interface
- Lead supplier interface for technical issues
- Review and provide feedback on initial samples
Continuous Improvement of the Design
- Generate cost savings ideas and attend VAVE (Value Analysis Value Engineering) workshops
- Trace technical issues and problems to root cause
- Support customer initiatives such as cost and warranty reduction activities, etc.
What you will bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related field
- 5 years of relevant experience
